Family-Owned and Proud: The Story Behind Squeeze In

Squeeze In’s journey began in 1974 with the opening of its first location in Truckee, California, a narrow 10-foot-wide, 62-foot-long restaurant space that truly required guests to “squeeze in” to enjoy their meal. The original Truckee location quickly earned a reputation for its eclectic vibe and hearty breakfast options, which included creative dishes and drinks loved by Truckee locals and vacationers alike.

In 2004, the Young family cashed in their savings and called in every favor they could to purchase Squeeze In. It was a long time dream of theirs to own this cute little restaurant in their favorite California ski town and they were inspired by the restaurant’s unique personality and local charm for many years prior. Sisters Shila Morris and Kay Young, who call Squeeze In their “third sister,” grew the brand by building on its original energy and fun atmosphere. From its cozy beginnings, the restaurant expanded steadily, even during tough economic times, to new locations in Nevada and California. Shila and Kay also introduced creative ways to engage loyal patrons, like the EggHead Breakfast Club community program, where fans helped fund growth through perks and loyalty rewards.

Today, Squeeze In has grown beyond its original location to 9 locations and more in development, with a vision to bring its signature breakfast experience to more communities through franchising. The company’s leadership, including CEO Amir Sabetian, is focused on scaling operations while preserving the atmosphere and customer connections that have made Squeeze In a family-owned favorite for 50 years.
