For nearly two decades, Mark and Linda have made a beloved Truckee restaurant an essential part of their family’s story. As visitors from out of town, they never expected to form such a deep connection to a place so far from home—but thanks to their daughter’s keen eye, that’s exactly what happened.
Back in 2006, long before online reviews and restaurant ranking sites were the norm, their young daughter, Emily, made a surprising choice. As they strolled through town, she pointed to a cozy little spot with a bright blue door and insisted they give it a try. They listened—and from the very first visit, they were hooked.
Everything about the experience stood out: the welcoming atmosphere, the exceptional food, and the unmistakable feeling that they had stumbled upon something truly special. It wasn’t just a meal; it was the beginning of a tradition.
From that day forward, every time their travels brought them back to town, they made sure to return. The restaurant became a place of celebration, connection, and comfort—a tradition that felt like coming home, even from miles away.
During the uncertainty of 2020, Mark and Linda wanted to give back to the restaurant that had given them so many cherished memories. They purchased gift cards and contributed to meals for first responders, hoping to do their part in ensuring its doors stayed open. Even from afar, they felt the warmth and gratitude of the restaurant’s team, reinforcing what they had known for years—this wasn’t just a place to eat; it was a community.
Then, this past Christmas, something remarkable happened. Wanting to surprise Mark with a meaningful gift, Linda reached out to the restaurant to order a t-shirt. Touched by the gesture from a family who lived so far away yet remained so connected, our Operations Director, Ian, decided to put a little extra love into the package. What was meant to be a simple gift turned into a heartfelt surprise, bringing joy not just to Mark and Linda but to everyone involved. When Christmas morning arrived, the gift was unwrapped, and the thoughtfulness behind it made the moment even more special.
Now, Mark and Linda are eagerly counting down the days until their next visit. They know the moment they step through the doors, they’ll be greeted like family, with familiar flavors and friendly faces waiting for them.
Their story is a testament to the magic that happens when a restaurant becomes more than a dining spot—it becomes part of a family’s tradition.
If you haven’t yet discovered your own favorite dining tradition, maybe it’s time to start. Come visit and see for yourself why this place has meant so much to Mark, Linda, and so many others.
We’ll save you a seat.
